Merman Nylo, our first merman in “Mermaids of the world” comes from Rome, Italy. The city of the seven hills is only 40 km away from the sea, which makes it a good basecamp to enjoy this marine dream. Moreover this triton shares with his partner (who we expect to interview in this section soon) the love for the underwater world and the mermaids, what makes this interview even more interesting.
It is not surprising that living in the monumental city par excellence and surrounded by the Colosseum, St. Peter’s Basilica, the Trevi Fountain, The Forum, and many more historical monuments, both share a passion for mermaids with a fondness for drawing and photography. Let’s start at the beginning, how did you get into mermaiding? Why do you like it so much?
I have been obsessed with sirens since I was a child, willing to became Merman Nylo. Obviously, a lot is due to mermaid films from disney and from the film Splash a mermaid in Manhattan . I´ve always felt connected to water. Thanks to this passion, I also met my boyfriend who was obsessed with sirens from childhood too.
Being a siren makes me feel special and free. I think that the sea is the real world that belongs to me and where I belong. I would like to be able to live it even in winter but the temperature does not allow me to mermaid.
For me, It is a way to escape from reality and way to enter into a dimension that is mine alone.
Merman Nylo, how is mermaid community health Italy your sea of origin?
The mermaid community in Italy… I am discovering it during the years. I always thought that my boyfriend and I were the only ones, at least in Rome region. Instead, since a couple of years, I am realizing that there are many people living this dream in Rome and Italy.
Meeting up with them is magical even if it rarely happens due to the various work commitments. I usually mermaid with my boyfriend and some friends in the beaches and lake close to Rome.
As Merman Nylo, I think that meeting with the community, even if it is small like here in Italy, is helpful to boost this dream in adult life, but I also think that mermaiding is not for everyone. We would not be special being otherwise!!!!
Do you support any ocean conservation efforts?
I currently support an association for the protection of the marine environment called “creature del mare” / “sea creatures”. As part of my collaboration, I posed for photos for a campaign against water pollution.
Note: “Creature del mare” was established on 10/15/2015 for the Protection of the marine ecosystem and its biodiversity. They focus their activity in cognitive investigation of the coasts and beaches of the Lazio coast and of other Italian regions through direct visits from the mainland and the sea. Reporting to the competent Authorities of degraded and / or polluted areas; and animals in difficulty.
They do a great effort on environmental education projects at schools with the aim of educating about respect for the sea and the enhancement of maritime landscapes and other environmental ecosystems. Promoting the culture of the sea through sustainable sea activities.
What events, conventions or mermaid gatherings have you been to or wish to go to?
As I mention the mermaid community is quite small yet in Italy, however I happened to participate in one gathering here in Italy, it was by chance but very fun. It was in Rome organized by a friend. Very amateur.
I would love to have the chance to participate in bigger events that are held around the world and meet mermaids and tritons to confront me with their experiences. It would be great!!!
What is your favorite mermaid item or clothing?
I do not use much mermaid objects or clothes. Sometimes I wear some shell or bracelet pendant. However, I have different types of tails that I love. A custom-made silicone tail made to measure by Mertailor. Some in pre-printed fabric. I have to clarify that I do not do them myself, I do not know how to do them, they are from Mertailor, which tails I believe is one of the most competitive in terms of price.
Can you tell us about your other hobbies / hobbies?
I love photography and drawing and I really enjoy outdoor walks.

Cominciamo dall’inizio come sei entrato in acqua? Perché ami così tanto le sirene?
Sono ossessionato dalle sirene da quando sono bambino. Ovviamente molto è dovuto al film la sirenetta della disney e dal film una sirena a manatahn. Mi sono sempre sentito legato all’acqua. Grazie a questa passione ho conosciuto il mio ragazzo anche lui ossessionato dalle siren fin da bambino
Essere una sirena mi fa sentire speciale e libero. Credo che sia il vero mondo che mi appartiene quello del mare. Mi piacerebbe riuscire a viverlo anche di inverno ma la temperatura non lo permette. È un modo che ho per evadere dalla realtà ed entrare in una dimensione solo mia.
Com’è la comunità delle sirene nel tuo mare di origine Italia?
La comunità delle sirene nel mio paese la sto scoprendo da qualache anno. Ho sempre pensato che io e il mio ragazzo fossimo i soli. Invece ci sono tante persone con cui puoi condividere questo sogno. Incontrarsi è magico anche se accade raramente per i vari impegni di lavoro. Solitamente nuoto con la coda con il mio fidanzato e alcuni amici. Penso che possa contorbuire alle persone per continuare a farle sognare a che da adulti, ma penso anche che non sia per tutti. Non saremmo esseri speciali altrimenti.
Sostieni eventuali sforzi di conservazione degli oceani?
Attualmente sostengo un’associazione per la salvaguardia dell’ambiente Marino chiamata “creature del mare”. Ho posato per delle foto per una campagna contro l’inquinamento delle acque.

Merman Nylo; a quali eventi, convegni o raduni di sirene hai partecipato o desideri andare?
Mi è capitato di partecipare ad un solo raduno qui in italia. A Roma organizzato da un’amica. Molto amatoriale. Mi piacerebbe partecipare a quelli che si tengono in giro per il mondo è incontrare tante sirene e tritoni per confrontarmi con le loro esperienze
Qual è il tuo oggetto o abbigliamento preferito??
Non uso molto oggetti o vesitit da sirena. Qualche volta indosso qualche ciondolo a conchiglia o bracciali. Ho diversi tipi di code. Una personalizzata in silicone fatta apposta per me si misura. Altre in stoffa prestampata. Non me le faccio da solo, non ne sono capace. Ma l’azienda da cui le copro è mertailorz che credo sia uno dei più competitivi per qualità prezzo.
Potresti parlarci di altre passioni / hobby che hai?
Amo la fotografia e disegnare e mi piacciono molto le passeggiate all’aria aperta.
