Today we bring you an Asian goddess, inhabitant of one of the main Southeast Asian paradises Mermaid Acacia lives in Malaysia, from where she has participated in the World Mermaids Championship 2019 in China.

Malaysia more than any other Asian country, center of confluence of different Asian, Islamic, Chinese and Indian cultures. The peninsula of Malacca has constituted, since prehistory, a place of passage. And from this wonderful mix arises this charming being. Do you want to meet her?

Lets start by the beginning how did you get into the water?

I’m in love with Ariel since young. I love her long red hair, her shell top, her tail and most importantly the underwater world! It’s very beautiful with all the fishes, corals, marine life! I love it when it’s underwater, it’s very calm and peaceful where I can feel my own heart beat and breath. Of course, I love the romantic story behind too!   

Apart from swimming, I love to free dive and scuba dive as well! Due to mermaiding, I started to pick up some simple diy skills so that I can sew what I want. I’m still beginner for this. I spend up to five hours sitting patiently to sew.

Why do you love mermaids so much? 

Merwen Ng Kah Wen (l) and mermaid Acacia Lee (r) recreate a scene of out of an underwater storyline. Both were part of the Malaysian team that took part in the World Mermaid Championship 2019 in China.

First of all, I love mermaid due to the freedom of not needing to carry equipments to dive underwater. Secondly, it’s due to the very beautiful costume that I can wear as a fish! I really love underwater! I think I’m a fish past life, I’m super afraid of cats! Hahahaha! Third, I wish through the beauty of mermaid, I can promote ocean conservation as it plays a very important role in our life and our generations to come.

How is the mermaid community in your origin sea? Are there many mermaids?

In Malaysia we’re trying to get all mermaids to join as Merlaysian.

For active mermaids, there’re around 10. We normally meet up every two weeks to practise.

What events, conventions or mermaid gatherings have you been to or wish to go to? 

I wish to join beauty pageant event as I think this event will attract many people as it’s easier to raise awareness for ocean conservation. Apart from that, I would like to join coral conservation, beach cleaning, marine ecosystem activities.

I wish to become a speaker to educate the public especially younger generations on what they can do as a part of the community to save our ocean. I seriously believe that education is the root to everything.

Do you support any ocean conservation efforts? I so could you explain it a bit?

So far I haven’t been to conservation project yet. I’ve involved in an ocean mermaid video production to promote about Play Tinggi, Malaysia. The corals there are real beautiful and protected.

Let’s talk a little bit about the mermaid items or clothing that you use… Which is your favorite item or clothing?

I have finfolk, swim tails and magic tails fabric tails. they are handmade. I will not choose my preference as both are different experience.

Could you tell us about other passions / hobbies that you have? 

My passion is anything related to underwater and outdoor. I’m an adventurous person. I’m looking for opportunity to become underwater model for ads, video or movie productions.

I would like to try off road bike and four wheel drive in future.
