Mermaid Michi

Today in “Mermaids of the World” we will meet Mermaid Michi. Originally from Mexico and now a permanent resident of the cristaline water of Rainbow Springs she started swiming at the age of one in the beutiful beaches of Ixtapa. So, nobody will be surprised if we say that water is her element.

She combinates her passion for mermaiding with her support to Springs conservation, and works with several mermaids and organizations and participates in enviromentally focused events.

It’s time to discover this international professional mermaid. Let’s meet together Mermaid Michi.

Lets start by the beginning how did you get into the water?

I’ve been a being hydrophile from a very young age. Water has always been a part of my life. I began swimming at the age of one. In Mexico, where I am originally from, I lived in a town called Ixtapa. It is a hilly tropical coast line with beautiful sandy beaches. This is where my love for water really flourished. After school, me and my siblings went to the beach to swim, enjoy the sunset and search for seashells.

Water has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember, so when I decided to become a mermaid, I knew it would be my dream come true.

Apart from swimming, I love nature so you can find me at national parks, hiking, mediating, participating in environmentally focused events and working on growing my business, @mermaidsofthesprings  (Instagram)

Why do you love mermaids so much?

I love mermaids because they are magical creatures. They are wonders of the world. Mermaids show humans that being unique and being yourself is truly magical, making dreams come true and are advocates for our planet.

How is the mermaid community in your origin spring?

The mermaid community in my area is amazing. There are so many mermaids in my area which I love because we help each other, empower each other and learn from each other. We do have a group called the Florida Springs Mermaids Group with 500+ merfolk. We have monthly meetups at the springs. Without a doubt I know that the mermaid community can and does contribute to the people and our planet. We help raise awareness to the threats our planet is facing and are in the forefront of taking on these issues.

Mermaid Michi What events, conventions or mermaid gatherings have you been to or wish to go to?

I have been to several mermaid meet ups. My favorite is the “Key West Mermaid Festival” which I am one of the mermaid ambassadors for.  Id like to go to MerMagic Con one day.

The Key West Mermaid Festival is founded by a Key West native mermaid, and local mermaid boutique owner. She, along with her crew and pod, invite you to step back in time to an island called Cayo Hueso (Bone Cay), where the Gulf meets the Atlantic, and the captains, seafarers, and fishermen would tell their stories of the sweet sirens’ songs.

This fin-tastic five-day event will unite the Key West locals and tourists, our neighboring Keys, visiting mermaid communities, and mermaid enthusiasts from around the world, on our magical little island. Family friendly, with fun for all, join us as we raise awareness for our beautiful oceans and educate all humans to swim safely in mermaid tails. #TheTakeOverIsReel we like to say, and we look forward to getting salty with all of the captains and mermaids who work hard to make Key West and the Florida Keys a better place for all who live the island life and our visitors.

Do you support any ocean conservation efforts?

I am huge advocate of water conservation specifically Spring conservation. I am working with several mermaids and organizations to raise awareness to the issues our springs are facing. My main concern is to protect our springs and help restore them and or aquifer.

Michi, Which services do you offer as International professional mermaid?

I offer so many services for mermaids and humans., alse teach people of all ages how to swim with a mermaid tail and be safe. Additionally I attend many events like parties, festivals, corporate events and more. The shows depend on the type of event but typically it involves me taking pictures with guests, reading a story to the kids and their parents, swimming in pools, lakes, springs and the ocean while doing tricks.

I also like to take this time to educate them on how to be more conscious about our planet by sharing with them many different ways to love a more environmentally friendly lifestyle.

Mermaid Michi, Which is your favorite item or clothing?

Every day you can catch me wearing something mermaidy. Mermaid leggings are my go-to and I love them. My CapeCali mermaid robe is a must and I wear it all the time. I wear it when I’m cold, when I am working at home and when I go to the springs so basically almost every day. I just keep buying stuff and get stuff gifted to me all the time.
